Kenai Peninsula & Soldotna Real Estate

Buying or selling a home is often an adventurous and complex affair. It can also end up being a time-consuming, costly and even disappointing event if the buyer or seller is not familiar with all aspects of the process or doesn?t possess the best resources and information necessary at hand.

Chris Druesedow of Kenai Peninsula Real Estate offers unparalleled expertise and service to all clients looking to buy or sell Kenai real estate property. Your complete success and satisfaction, along with his representation and service is his number one priority. They service the entire Kenai and Soldotna real estate area and its surrounding communities.

You?ll find Kenai real estate smack on the western part of the Kenai Peninsula coast, which also sits on the boundary of the Kenai National Wildlife Refuge. It?s about a thirty minute plane trip from southwest Anchorage, Alaska. Approximately ninety percent of the area is wilderness, so it is full of breathtaking scenery, superb fishing and abundant wildlife of all that the North has to offer; truly an ideal location for outdoor types and nature-lovers.

Kenai has a rather prolific history and booming real estate market, as it is known worldwide for its oil, natural gas, ever-growing tourism and flourishing fishing industry, both commercial and private. The Borough has forty-four schools, all of which distinguish themselves with high standards and national ratings, with an impressive teacher/student ratio. The University of Alaska also manages the Kenai Peninsula Community College. Fishing and tourism services, as well as civil service, schools and various other city office positions make up the major employment opportunities in the community.

Soldotna real estate is located in the Kenai Peninsula, and is a bit rural, with the Kenai River as its natural emblem that flows right through the center of town, which makes it another must fishing spot for those hoping to snag a record breaking prize. Aside from excellent fishing, there are a slew of other outdoor activity to take part in, such as hiking, mountain biking, horseback riding, rafting and skiing. There is also a town golf course, a children?s park, swimming pools and movie theaters.

Located right on the banks of the river, the Soldotna Visitors Center is an excellent facility to gather information about local attractions and events and things to do in the area, such as the Soldotna Sports Center, where various sporting events take place, the Soldotna Historical Museum and the Centennial Park, where campsites are located, as well as nearby rodeos, baseball and softball events, hokey, ice skating and an assortment of other events and activities.

While there are a vast array of properties of many types available throughout Alaska, Chris Druesedow uses his knowledge, expertise and intuition to find his clients the perfect home at the perfect price. Depending on preference and need, the professionals at Kenai Peninsula Real Estate will not only help prospective buyers find both traditional and hard-to-find properties that are desirable and that meet their precise specifications, but help sellers, looking to sell their existing property, find the best value. Just some of the types of real estate property they specialize in include:

? Investment property

? Waterfront property

These types of properties are displayed at Chris Druesedow?s site, with some of the best information and tools at his disposal. He will provide detailed information on all types of Kenai and Soldotna real estate and properties for sale. Find the latest news and what?s going on in the current real estate market, with blogs that provide fresh news on market activity.

My submission to the Australian Senate inquiry into marriage ...

Dear Committee Secretary,

As an Australian who believes same-sex couples should be able to marry, I strongly support the Marriage Equality Amendment Bill 2010.

The Bill is an important step towards providing legal equality for same-sex partners and removing discrimination against them.

The Bill will strengthen relationships, families and marriage, and will make Australia a fairer and more inclusive nation.

I support provisions of the Bill that will allow a celebrant who is a minister of religion to refuse to marry same-sex partners.

I oppose civil unions as a substitute for full equality in marriage for same-sex partners. Civil unions can reinforce ideas within parts of our community that gay and lesbian people are not equal members of our society. This in turn can consciously and subconsciously help justify discriminatory language and behaviour within our society. The basic fact is that without marriage equality, gay and lesbian people are not equal members of our society.

Without marriage equality the government is condoning unequal treatment of gay and lesbian people within society more broadly. The government is saying that gay and lesbian relationships are not of the same standard as heterosexual relationships, which condones discrimination and mistreatment in the schoolyard, the workplace and the street. When a sub-community is given fewer rights the government is saying that these people are lesser people and not worthy of the same level of protection as the rest of society.

I have experienced the loneliness and despair of being discriminated against because of my sexuality in school. I know how so many young Australians have suffered. And there are far too many who have suffered more than they could cope. As a society we need to agree that this type of discrimination is not acceptable and no one should be the subject of such behaviour.

I have been with my same-sex partner five years. We have made a commitment to spend the rest of our lives together. We have supported each other emotionally, socially, physically and financially ? and will continue to do so going forward.

As citizens of two different countries we have had our relationship assessed by both the Australian and Swedish governments to ensure we could continue to live together. In order to gain appropriate visas, we have had to prove that we are in a committed and serious relationship. Both governments held our relationship to the same standards as any heterosexual couple in making this assessment, which we believe to be both fair and just.

While holding our relationship to the same standards, the Australian government does not afford us the same rights as those in heterosexual relationships. Despite having proved that we have the same level of commitment as a heterosexual couple, we cannot get married in the country we call our home. It does not make sense that the government recognises same-sex relationships as equal in all respects when making an assessment of our commitment to each other, and yet does not afford us the same rights.

I know a number of Australian couples that have gone overseas to marry due to their strong desire to demonstrate their commitment to one-another. For each of these couples the decision has been fraught with conflicting emotions. While they are sure of the commitment they are making, they are forced to do this in an environment away from most of their family and friends ? an important element in almost all marriages.

Although Australian, I lived in Sweden for over four year. Sweden supports marriage equality in law. During my time in Sweden I saw the positive impact that marriage equality provides the gay and lesbian community. However, I failed to see any negative impact on the broader community. It has not otherwise changed the nature of the institution of marriage in the country, nor has it affected how straight people perceive their own relationships or families.

Opening up the common vernacular that used to describe relationships in our society is very empowering. I have seen how the ability for gay and lesbian couples to use the same words in Sweden allows all people to talk about their relationship with a level of confidence and pride that I have not seen in Australia. Having a common language for everyone means that gays and lesbians in equally committed relationships can have their relationships viewed on an equal level without being questioned.

In Australia gay and lesbian people are left searching for words as ?boyfriend,? ?girlfriend? and ?partner? fail to demonstrate the level commitment they have in their relationships. Describing a partner as a ?husband? or ?wife? is often met with the response that ?that?s not possible,? when all the person means is ?that?s not possible in Australia.? Within the broader community these same words are used before a couple has decided to make a life-long commitment to each other. Ultimately, this situation degrades gay and lesbian relationships.

While this is not a religious issue, it has become necessary to highlight that many religious groups support marriage equality. The Church of Sweden, which claims 70% of the Swedish population as members, is one of the greatest supporters of marriage equality in Swedish society. And there are many religious people and groups within Australian society that also support marriage equality.

For me marriage equality ultimately comes down to a legal argument. If the government believes gay and lesbian people are considered equal members of our society they should be afforded equal rights. The government already recognises that gay and lesbian couples share an equal level of love and commitment as heterosexual couples ? as demonstrated by the common process to assess couples for partner visas. The government recognises that gay and lesbian people should not be treated differently due to their sexual orientation as described in anti-discrimination laws. Thus the government should enshrine marriage equality into law to remove discrimination against a group that it recognises as equal.

Yours sincerely
Sebastian Barney

Angry Birds Space: Should you download it?

Review: Released on Thursday, Angry Birds Space offers dazzling new physics.

The Angry Birds series has been one of the most successful mobile games to date ? and for good reason. Rovio has taken a simple gameplay approach and elevated it to an addictive medium for all kinds of players, both skillful and casual.

But no previously released game can prepare you for "Angry Birds Space," which sticks with the same concept, but adds more than enough new tricks to make it a must-have sequel (avaialble for Apple and Android mobile devices, Macs and PCs).

Once again, the birds are battling evil pigs as they sit in prebuilt arrangements ? this time in space. Your team includes both old favorites like the yellow speeding bird, as well as newcomers such as the ice cube-shaped homing bird that freezes enemies on contact.

What?s cool about "Angry Birds Space" is how it conceptualizes using gravity. Pigs are usually placed on planets that have a gravitational pull. You?ll need to adjust trajectory to compensate. Once you do, though, you?ll be surprised with the results. Rovio includes plenty of ingenious designs here, including ones that take advantage of outside debris, such as mines and asteroids.

But that doesn?t mean the game?s gone off the deep end with presentation. This is still an Angry Birds game through and through, with cute little animations, sharp images and a great spacey soundtrack that makes you feel as if you?re on the far reaches of the universe.

Along with?accessing plenty of inspired free levels (some paying homage to classic video games like 'Breakout' and 'Super Mario Bros.'), you can also unlock 60 additional levels for a dollar more ? not a bad price for filling your Birds fix. While they may be challenging at first, there?s always a solution available, either by figuring out the best one or using an Eagle Tin to get through it. These are provided throughout the game, and you can buy extras for just a buck more through an in-app purchase.

While some may feel that the Angry Birds series has overstayed its welcome (especially with stuffed animals and fruit snacks on shelves), Rovio still has the magic touch when it comes to designing a game around them. "Angry Birds Space" is one of their most engaging affairs to date, filled with dazzling new physics and plenty of challenges you?ll be trying to three-star throughout the night and well into the next morning. It?s intergalactically awesome.

RATING 4/ 4

Jewish Shroud Expert Teaches at Pontifical University

Photographer From '78 Scientific Examination Speaks of Proofs of Authenticity

By Andrew Dalton, LC

ROME, MARCH 22, 2012 (Zenit.org).- Barrie Schwortz was the Official Documenting Photographer for the Shroud of Turin Research Project (STURP), the team that conducted the first in-depth scientific examination of the Shroud in 1978.

In this interview, Schwortz tells ZENIT how Shroud science has influenced his own faith.

ZENIT: You just finished teaching a week-long course as part of the Diploma in Shroud Studies from the Science and Faith Institute of the Pontifical Athenaeum Regina Apostolorum, in collaboration with Othonia and the International Center of Sindonology in Turin. What has that experience meant for you?

Schwortz: Probably the best part of the experience is the warm reception that I'm given by the faculty and students. That makes me feel that being here is very worthwhile. The response from the students is always so positive.

Of course, being Jewish, it's sort of ironic. The first time they asked me [to teach], I said, "So, how often do you bring Jews to teach future priests about the Shroud?" We all laughed about that.

It really is a great honor. For me, it makes the work that I've done with the Shroud over all these years really meaningful and not just for myself but obviously for the students. And when you are doing something that is of value to other people, that's a great blessing in its own right.

ZENIT: How long did it take for you come accept the Shroud of Turin as the authentic one belonging to Jesus in the 1stcentury?

Schwortz: At the very beginning of my involvement with the Shroud, I was very skeptical about its authenticity. I had no emotional attachment to Jesus and the subject matter because I was raised as an Orthodox Jew. The main thing I knew about Jesus in those days was that he also was Jewish, and that was about it.

Examining the Shroud, I knew quickly that it wasn't a painting because when you are up close and you see it, you can tell it's not a painting. But as far as its authenticity, it took another 18 years after we finished our examination and all the papers were published.

I still wasn't completely convinced until one of our fellow team members, Allen Adler, another Jewish man who was a blood chemist, explained to me why the blood remained red on the Shroud. I felt that old blood was supposed to be black or brown. The blood on the Shroud is a red-crimson color. So that was a deal breaker for me for a long time. But ultimately, when that was explained to me and especially from my friend Al Adler, may he rest in peace, who also was involved in this not so much from a religious point of view as from a purely scientific point of view, he was the one who put the last piece of the puzzle in for me. It was a shock to me when I came to the conclusion after almost 20 years that this piece of cloth was authentic. And I got there based solely on the science.

ZENIT: Regarding the argument for authenticity, do the results from the 1988 radiocarbon dating remain a thorn in the Shroud's side?

Schwortz: It is the primary piece of evidence that points in the opposite direction, but of course I had the benefit by 1988 of having more than 10 years of study, and I knew about historical objects like the Hungarian Pray Codex that indicate this cloth was around much earlier than the earliest dates given by the carbon dating.

Now I'm not a physicist, so I didn't necessarily understand why the radiocarbon dating was so skewed. It bothered me, and of course it was a huge setback because for the 10 years after we examined the cloth, the consensus publicly was, "This thing is probably real." And then the carbon dating came out and it knocked it down. And from that point forward the world began to believe that it couldn't be authentic.

This was frustrating for me because the evidence is so powerful in my mind that this has to be the real thing. As Sherlock Holmes said, "eliminate the impossible, and whatever remains, however improbable, must be the truth."

ZENIT: What would you say is the message or meaning of the Shroud?

Schwortz: I always say, the Shroud did not come with a book of instructions, and consequently, the meaning isn't on the cloth but in the eye and in the heart of the beholder. Each person has to regard it, study it or not, and make up his own mind. It's not the kind of thing that forces itself upon you, and I think that's as it should be. It will not push to open your heart. You have to open your heart to it.

For me, once I came to the conclusion from the science that it was authentic, I came to understand how meaningful it is. This is like a forensic document of the Passion, and for Christians around the world this has got to be the most significant relic because it accurately documents everything that is told in the Gospels of what was done to Jesus.

I think that there's plenty of evidence there to support the belief that this cloth wrapped the body of the historic Jesus. It doesn't speak to whether or not he was the Messiah. Again, that's a test not so much for science but for faith.

ZENIT: Was your progressive discovery of Shroud data accompanied by a journey of faith?

Schwortz: When I first got involved, I was ... well, I don't have a label for it. I knew about God, but I didn't really think about God. I hadn't thought about God since I was 13 and had my bar mitzvah, and there was really no real religious foundation for that. It was almost an obligation to my family. It was very important to them, but for me it didn't have much significance. I walked away from faith and religion and God, and I really didn't look back until I was almost 50 years old.

Once I came to the conclusion that the Shroud was authentic, which was in 1995, I built shroud.com. And in working with that and collecting this material and making it available to the public, I began to speak publically about the Shroud around 1996. And as soon as I stood up and said, "I believe this is authentic," the questions changed, and everyone asked me, "Well, what do you believe?" And they weren't talking about the Shroud. They were talking about faith in God.

For me this has always been about the truth and about being honest with people and making it available even if it doesn't represent my personal beliefs. I think all Christians have the right to know that the evidence does point to its authenticity.

So when people started asking me what I believe, I didn't have an answer. I was clueless to what I believed. I had not really regarded it in my life as an adult. It forced me to confront my beliefs for the first time.

And it didn't take very long because I was raised in an Orthodox Jewish home where God was part of everything every day, like Fiddler on the Roof. So I came to the conclusion when I looked: God was there just patiently waiting for me to acknowledge him. When I looked in my heart, he was there. It was a shock. I was really surprised to see that deep down inside I had this faith in a higher power, in God, all along. It's just that I had virtually ignored it through the first part of my adult life, and there at age 50, I suddenly came face to face with God in my own heart.

And so the Shroud, in essence, was the catalyst for that. How many Jews can say the Shroud of Turin brought them back to their faith in God? It's had great significance in my own life not just from the obvious intellectual point of view but also from a spiritual point of view, in that it reconnected me with something that's very important to me, and that's my own faith in God.

ZENIT: What future goals do you have for shroud.com?

Schwortz: About three years ago, back in 2009, I formed a non-profit organization. I was concerned that, should something happen to me, the ownership of these materials would come into question.

I didn't want to burden my son with trying to figure out what should be done with it, so I formed STERA, Shroud of Turin Education and Research Association. The primary function of STERA is to educate people through shroud.com, which just hit its 16th anniversary this year.

Some of the other STURP team members who have passed away have left to me their collections, so our biggest upcoming project is to raise the funds to digitally archive all their materials, and ultimately make those available through shroud.com. Once archived and in one place, future researchers can have access to this material at no cost.

I think that the future of STERA is to continue that work even when I am gone. I have a great board of directors, with many well-known Shroud scholars. Hopefully this will make it very clear after I'm gone that the ownership is not in question. It belongs to STERA: the Web site, all of my photographs. All of that has been legally transferred to STERA so that, if something happens to me, the people are in place who can carry the work forward.

World News - Deadly clashes erupt after Egypt's Al-Masry soccer ...

By NBC News, msnbc.com staff and news services

Updated at 6:07 a.m. ET: CAIRO -- One?person was shot dead and?at least 18?others were?injured in overnight clashes between security forces and angry soccer fans in Egypt's Port Said, authorities said.

Supporters of Al-Masry were?upset because?their team?had been?banned for two seasons in the wake of the country's worst stadium disaster.

"Hundreds of angry fans clashed with military police after the decision was announced," one witness told Reuters.

Citing?the Al-Ahram newspaper, the BBC reported that?a 13-year-old boy died in hospital after being shot in the back.

NBC News reported that protests by Al-Masry supporters on Saturday also prevented thousands of workers from entering Port Said's investment zone.

The Egyptian Football Association (EFA) banned Al-Masry on Friday?following the pitch invasion that killed 74 fans last month. In that game, Al-Masry beat Cairo's Al-Ahly. However, some?fans were upset for what they said were obscene signs raised by Al-Ahly club fans.

Survivors of the stadium riot say men wielding batons, knifes, and fireworks streamed from Al-Masry stands and stormed the field to attack Al-Ahly fans, stabbing them, undressing them and tossing them off bleachers while the police looked on.

At least 74 people were killed and hundreds more injured when rival soccer fans in Egypt rioted after a match. NBC's Ayman Mohyeldin reports from Cairo.

The melee sparked days of street protests. Most of the dead were members of Ultras Ahlawy, a group of avid politicized soccer fans who have long enmity with the police. Ultras has played a key role in the uprising against Hosni Mubarak.

Egyptian prosecutors have?indicted several?top Al-Masry and security officials amid claims they conspired or were negligent during last month's violence.

'Shot dead'
The latest?clashes began late Friday and continued into early Saturday, witnesses said.

Military police fired shots in the air to disperse hundreds of soccer fans protesting outside the Suez Canal Authority building in Port Said.

"One was shot dead, in the back, and 18 were injured in the clashes, two of them are suffering gunshot wounds,"?a medical source said.

After soccer melee, Egypt learns tough lesson: Sharing blame

Earlier, the EFA said in a statement that Al-Masry's soccer activities would be suspended for the 2011/12 and 2012/13 seasons. The club would be reinstated to the Premier League in the 2013/14 season.

Port Said Stadium, where the stampede took place, would be closed for three years, the EFA said.

Hired thugs?
During the February pitch invasion, steel doors at the stadium were bolted shut, trapping fans trying to escape from the stands and dozens were crushed to death.

Many fans blamed the government for failing to send enough police to the stadium given the tense build-up to the match, and many believe the violence was started by hired thugs. At least 1,000 people were injured.

Prosecutors referred 75 people, including nine security officials in Port Said, to the criminal court on March 15 to face trial over the violence.??

The city has a rich Creole and Cajun history, and is a popular destination for foodies looking to try some authentic Cajun cuisine.

Fun fact: Did you know that Lafayette is #8 on the list of ?Top 101 zip codes with the largest percentage of Zairian first ancestries??

The average driver can be expected to pay around $2,070 for car insurance in Lafayette. This is almost 2% cheaper than the rest of Lafayette County; however, it is also 5% more expensive than the rest of Louisiana! Fortunately, you don?t have to settle for these high prices if you don?t want to. Keep reading to find out more.

Insurance carriers evaluate different elements when figuring out insurance quotes, including gender, where you live, credit score/rating, driving distance to work, and business use of the vehicle. In addition, premiums change from company to company. To verify you?re still being charged the most favorable rate, compare cheap Lafayette auto insurance quotes online.

These Companies in Lafayette LA Offer the Best Car Insurance Rates

Lafayette Car Insurance Factors

There are numerous ways that your car insurance rate can be estimated. But not all of it is out of your control; there are actions you can take to be able to influence what discounts you are eligible to receive. Listed below are a few of these components in greater detail:

Where you park your vehicle each night will have a serious impact on your auto insurance rate. Typically, car insurance is cheaper in rural areas because fewer cars means a reduced possibility that you will get into a wreck with another automobile. The population of Lafayette is 114,915 and the median household income is $44,977.

Finding cheap auto insurance can be difficult if you are at risk for auto theft. Certain popular vehicle models are attractive to thieves, as well as vehicles which are parked often in large cities. The total number of stolen vehicles in Lafayette was 290 back in the year 2010.

While the average commute time in Lafayette can last 15-20 minutes, spending only 10-15 minutes behind the wheel is not uncommon. About 80% of workers will drive their own vehicle to the office alone, while approximately 10% will carpool.

For Lafayette, the largest percentage of drivers on the road have a full high school education or some other equivalent. And the college graduates aren?t far behind ? more than 20% of residents have a bachelor?s degree. If you are one of the motorists living in Lafayette with a higher education, check with your insurance provider to see if they are willing to offer you a discounted rate.

Lafayette offers a handful of choices for those wishing to pursue a higher education. The University of Louisiana has a campus in Lafayette, and is nationally recognized for its expertise in architecture, nursing, computer science, and biology. There is also the National EMS Academy for would-be EMTs. If you want a technical or vocational degree, you can look into the Louisiana Technical College or Remington College.

Unfortunately for most insurance companies, a straightforward internet search can reveal many of their business secrets. But even with the right information, it can still be difficult for you as an individual to understand your risk profile and find low-cost insurance. Make sure you do your due diligence prior to committing to your next car insurance policy.

Calculate YOUR auto insurance risks by entering your Age, Zip Code, and Gender into the calculator below.

Stanford football pro day participants

Most of the media world was at Stanford football pro day to watch Andrew Luck make his throws. But there were plenty of other Stanford football alumni in action.

Johnson Bademosi, Coby Fleener, Corey Gatewood, Delano Howell, Jonathan Martin, Matt Masifilo, Jeremy Stewart, Michael Thomas, Griff Whalen, Zach Nolan, Chris Owusu, David DeCastro and Nate Whitaker also worked out for the scouts.

Luck performed all the drills at the NFL Combine in Indianapolis, so the only thing he participated in was the passing drills he led.

Likewise, DeCastro and Owusu showed all they needed to show at the Combine so they sat out the non-football activities.

Fleener and Martin did not participate in Indy due to injury so they both ran the 40-yard dash and did the agility drills.

The other Cardinal who were not invited to the Combine did all of the available exercises plus the individual position work.

Whitaker did not run, he just kicked. Unfortunately for him, it appeared more scouts were interested in watching Luck warm up.?

Blue Jeans CEO Looks To Beat His Two-Time Acquirer Cisco With Low-Cost Video Conferencing

krishHaving sold two companies to Cisco, Krish Ramakrishnan knows what it takes to compete with the venerable networking giant. After leaving Cisco for the second time to be an entrepreneur in residence at Accel Partners, he started Blue Jeans Network three years ago to compete in the video conferencing space. They soon rolled out a product that connects people for video meetings regardless of whether they use Skype, Google Hangouts, Cisco or Polycom. Now Blue Jeans is digging in deep with a new product meant to kill those expensive video conferencing units called MCUs or multipoint control units, that can cost north of $250,000.
