Popgadget Personal Technology for Women: Hackers Beware

video_thumbnail.png

FACT: The average working adult today spends less time in a corporate office and more
time telecommuting, whether it be from home or the local Starbucks, connected to an open Wi-Fi network.

What most of us don't realize is that when we log onto any Wi-Fi network, we put our information - and ultimately our identity - at risk. Seems like there are hackers lurking around every coffee cup, using software such as Firesheep or Reaver to hack into your account.

So what's a gal to do? We tried the free Virtual Private Networking (VPN) service, "proXPN," which utilizes the OpenVPN protocol to establish a 512-bit encryption tunnel using a 2048-bit key, which keeps all our data rom being intercepted, monitored or recorded.

Available for both Windows and Mac, proXPN also offer paid subscriptions with more advanced features, such as support for mobile devices and access to the VPN servers locations worldwide.
